Exploring the Use of Learning Management System for Instructional Delivery During the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Case of University of Nigeria, Nsukka

This study explored the use of the Learning Management System (LMS) among lecturers at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study adopted the exploratory sequential mixed method design. A sample of six participants were interviewed as part of the qualitative component of the study, while 355 respondents participated in the quantitative component by responding to an online questionnaire. The trustworthiness and validity of the instruments were checked by three experts. The qualitative data were transcribed and categorized based on Rogers’s Diffusion of Innovation (DoI) Theory, while the quantitative data were analyzed using frequency count and percentages, and results were represented in a bar chart. Results from the study showed that although some lecturers were categorized as innovators due to their venturesomeness and creativity in using LMS, some have never seen nor used LMS. It was recommended that the university through the ICT directorate should organize at least a quarterly training programme for lecturers to create awareness and equip them with the necessary skills to use LMS for instructional delivery during a pandemic in the university.
Assessing the Use of ICT Facilities in Teaching and Learning Office Technology and Management by Lecturers and Students of Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa State, Nigeria

The study assessed lecturers and students level of knowledge on the use of ICT facilities and the extent to which they are utilizing these facilities. A descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. A questionnaire named “Level of Lecturers’ Knowledge (LLKICTF), Extent of Utilization (EUICTF) and Students’ Level of Knowledge (SLKICTF) on the use of ICT facilities” was used as an instrument for data collection. The internal consistency of the instrument was determined using Cronbach Alpha and a reliability coefficient of 0.89 was obtained. Data was analyzed using mean and standard deviation. The results show that lecturers’ levels of knowledge on the use ICT facilities for teaching and learning Office Technology and Management was high. However, the extent (frequency) of use of ICT facilities by lecturers of Office Technology and management was Low. Furthermore, it was found that the knowledge acquired by the students on the use of ICT facilities in learning Office Technology and Management was Low. It was recommended that government should provide adequate computers and ICT facilities with the various packages installed for the teaching and learning of Office Technology Management courses in Federal Polytechnics, Nasarawa State and the School Management should make sure that the computer and ICT facilities in the school are in good conditions with a constant power supply for effective use during the instructional process.
Effects of Reciprocal Peer- Tutoring Strategy, Mathematics Test Anxiety on Senior Secondary School Students’ Performance in Geometry

This study investigated effects of reciprocal peer-tutoring strategy on the performance of senior secondary school students in geometry and mathematics test-anxiety in Bosso Local Government Area, Niger State. The population consisted of 4,478 SS II students and sample size of 245 students. A quasi-experimental design was employed. Two research questions and two null hypotheses were tested at a significance level of P≤0.05. Two instruments developed: The Geometry Performance Test and Geometry Test Anxiety questionnaire, with reliability coefficients of r=0.65 and r=0.74, respectively. The data were analyzed using t-tests. Two lesson models were developed for the experimental and control groups. Findings revealed that the experimental group performed better than the control group in terms of geometry performance, and they also displayed lower levels of test anxiety. It was recommended among others that mathematics teachers should be exposed to Reciprocal Peer-Tutoring through conferences, seminars, workshops, and in-service training.
Information and Communication Technology Enriched Curriculum as A Tool for Revamping Secondary Education to Meet Global Needs and Challenges in Post Pandemic Era

The paper centred on the need to enrich the secondary education curriculum in Nigeria with Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for the purpose of meeting global needs and challenges in the post-pandemic era. It was necessitated by the experiences of the COVID-19 pandemic era in the country which revealed that the learners at that level of education lacked the necessary knowledge, skills, values and attitudes to adapt and thrive in a global society despite the fact that there were available ICT tools that could be infused into their curriculum to transform them into globally relevant and competitive products. The paper discussed, ICT-enriched curriculum, secondary education,global needs and challenges, and then progressed to explore the relationships that exist among them. The exploration of the relationships showed that ICT-enriched curriculum could engineer the necessary diversity and innovation for revamping the Nigerian secondary education to meet global needs and challenges in post COVID-19 era. It was recommended, among others, that the state ministries of education should intensify efforts to make the national information technology policy a reality in their schools in order to optimally harness the potential of ICT in revamping secondary education in Nigeria to meet global needs and challenges in the post-pandemic era.
Effect of Think-Pair-Share Instructional Strategy on JSS2 Students Cognitive Engagement in Mathematics Classes

The study investigated the effect of think-pair-share instructional strategy on JSS2 students’ cognitive engagement in Mathematics classes. Three research questions and corresponding hypothesis guided the study which adopted the pretest posttest quasi-experimental research design. The sample of the study was 93 JSS 2 students drawn using stage sampling procedure. One instrument titled: Students’ Cognitive Engagement Questionnaire (SCEQ) developed by the researchers was used to collect data. The instrument was faced validated by three experts. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions and ANCOVA to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Results among others showed that the think-pair-share strategy had a significant effect on students’ cognitive engagement in Mathematics classes than the lecture method. It was recommended among other that Mathematics teachers should use the think-pair-share instructional strategy in teaching Mathematics so as to enhance students’ cognitive engagement in class.
Assessing the Awareness and Usage of ChatGPT among Students of Computer Science at Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa, Nasarawa State, Nigeria

The study assessed the awareness and usage of ChatGPT among the students of computer science, Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa, Nasarawa state. A survey research design was used for the study. A structured questionnaire title; “Level of Awareness (LACGPT) and Extent of Usage (EUCGPT) of ChatGPT among the students’ of computer science” was used as an instrument for data collection. The internal consistency of the instrument was determined using Cronbach Alpha and a reliability coefficient of 0.928 was obtained. Data was analyzed using mean, standard deviation and percentage. The results showed that students were aware of ChatGPT and had used it, although there was variation in the frequency of usage. Furthermore, the study found that most students perceived ChatGPT as a valuable tool for various purpose, such as information retrieval and generating text etc. It was recommended that the computer science lecturers should organize a class lectures to their students on the awareness and use of ChatGPT. This should be aimed at increase the students’ awareness of the available ChatGPT and also to equip them with the necessary skills and technical know –how on their usage.
Integrating Flipped Classroom Instructional Strategy in Teaching of Chemical Reaction: Effect on Students’ Achievement

This study investigated the effect of flipped classroom instructional strategy on students’ academic achievement. Two research questions guided the study while three null hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. Quasi experimental research design was adopted for the study. The population for the study was 2,806 SS II with a sample size of 260. The instrument used for data collection was Chemical Reaction Achievement Test (CRAT) validated by three research experts. Kuder-Richardson 20 (K-20) formula was used and a reliability index of 0.79 was obtained. Mean and standard deviation were used for answering the research questions while Analysis of Covariance was used to test the null hypotheses. The findings of the study showed that students taught chemical reaction using flipped classroom instructional strategy recorded improved achievement than those in conventional teaching approach. The study recommended that chemistry teachers should integrate flipped classroom instructional strategy during teaching process.
