Effects of Problem-Based Learning on Students’ Academic Algebra Performance in Uyo Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria

Abstract
The study looked into how well students in Uyo, Nigeria, learned algebra using the Problem-Based Learning
approach. Three research questions and three hypotheses were used to guide the study. Quasi-experimental
design was used. 3,173 Junior Secondary One (JS1) students constituted the population, and sample of 124
students. Three professionals (mathematics lecturers and teachers) validated developed instruments for data
collecting tagged Mathematics Achievement Test (MAT). The instruments reliability was 0.73. The mean,
standard deviation, and Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) with a 0.05 level of significance level were used to
analyse the studys data. Gender findings on achievement of students was not statistically significant while
Problem-Based Learning method (PBL) had significant effect on achievement of students. According to the
findings, it was recommended, that math teachers embrace the PBL technique in the classroom to improve
students proficiency with algebraic operations.

Effect of Discovery Method on Performance of Upper Basic II Students in Some Selected Basic Science Concepts in Giwa Education-Zone, Kaduna State, Nigeria

Abstract
This study titled Effect of Discovery Method on Performance of Upper Basic Science II Students in Some Selected Basic
Science Concepts in Giwa Education Zone, Kaduna State, Nigeria. The Design of the study was a Quasi-Experimental
design. The population comprised of 1390 JSS2 Basic Science Students in Giwa. A Sample of 175 students from two
randomly selected schools were used for the study. The Experimental Group was taught Basic Science Concepts using
Discovery Method, while the Control Group was taught using Lecture Method. A validated Instrument called Basic
Science Performance Test (BSPT) with a reliability coefficient of 0.83 was used for the data collection. Inferential
statistic was used to test the null hypothesis at 0.05 alpha level. Finding revealed that there is a statistical significant
difference between the groups in favour of the experimental group, its concluded that discovery method was found
to be helpful in enhancing students’ performance.

Effect of Practical Chemistry Teaching Strategies on Students Interest in Senior Secondary Schools in Kogi State

Abstract
This study investigated the effects of practical chemistry teaching strategies on students’ interest in Practical
Chemistry. The study adopted the non-equivalent control group design. Two research questions and three null
hypotheses guided the study. A sample of 84 SS3 Chemistry students from two intact classes in two secondary
schools participated in the study. Data collection was done with a researcher developed instrument tagged
“practical Chemistry skill interest scale (PCSIS). Data collected for the study were analyzed using mean and standard
deviation while Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The
results revealed that students’ group work strategy significantly increased students’ interest in practical Chemistry
compared with individual laboratory work strategy. Gender did not significantly influenced students’ in practical
Chemistry. Based on these findings’ chemistry teachers should adopt the group work strategy to improve students’
interaction patterns and interest in practical chemistry.
Technical Know-How Required by the Students of Colleges of Education in Grasscutter (Thryonomys Swinderianus) Production for Wealth Creation in Benue State, Nigeria

Abstract
The study identified technical know-how required by the students of Colleges of Education, in Grasscutter also known
as cane rat (Thryonomys swinderianus) production for wealth creation in College of Education Oju and Katsina-Ala
Local Government Area of Benue state, Nigeria. The study was guided by three objectives, three research questions
and two null hypotheses tested at 0.05 level of significance. The survey research has a population of 168 that is made
up of 127 registered agricultural extension agents and 41 agricultural education lecturers from the two Colleges of
Education in Benue State. There was no sampling because the population was manageable. The instrument was a
structured questionnaire for data collection titled: Technical Know-how in Grasscutter Production for Wealth Creation
Questionnaire (TGPWCQ) developed by the researcher. It was subjected to face and content validity by five experts
and was trial tested on 35 respondents comprising of 22 agricultural extension agents and 13 wildlife lecturers in Kogi
State. Cronbach Alpha method of reliability was used to determine the internal consistency of the TGPWCQ, with a
reliability coefficient of 0.979. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions. The study
found that technical Know-how in planning, in housing and health management practices as well as feeding and
marketing of the processed meat and its products. There was no significant difference between the mean responses
of Extension agents and lecturers on planning, feeding and marketing. But there was a significant difference between
the mean ratings of the responses of Extension agents and lecturers on housing, health and management practices.
It was recommended amongst many, that the identified technical Know-how be developed into modules to enhance
skill acquisition.

Ethical Issues in Computer as an Instrument of Technology Growth

Abstract
The recent technological advancement in digital technology has provided more robust computer-based operations in
modern industrial society and its numerous applications in all facets of life is faced with known and unknown threats
which have created one or more ethical issues for the computer profession. This research therefore; investigates
some of the fundamental aspects of ethical issues in computers, evaluates the influence of computer ethics, and
proposes solutions to ethical issues in computers. Adopting the descriptive research design based on cluster sampling
through the use of Microsoft Excel tool for data analysis on questionnaires targeted at the population of Computer
Professionals at Abuja Metropolis with a sample size of 120, this research observed that software piracy, computer
crimes, data breach, privacy, and poor computer ethics awareness limit the growth of digital technology. The study
recommends the enforcement of computer ethics at all stages of system development life cycle and organisations.

A Comparative Evaluation of Ethical Considerations in Data Mining Across Healthcare, Education, and Government Sectors: Promoting Responsible and Equitable Practices

Abstract
In many industries, data mining is used to glean insights from big datasets. Due to the nature of the data, the
stakeholders, the societal effects, and ethical challenges differ. Despite the wealth of literature on data mining ethics
in government, healthcare, and education, comparing data in these sectors is scarce. This study fills this vacuum by
investigating ethical standards in these industries and providing strategies for ensuring responsible, ethical practices.
Of the 60 papers gathered from sources like ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, Springer Link, and Web of Science, which
survived the inclusion and exclusion selection criteria, 30 were chosen purposefully. The study adopted a systematic
literature review approach and found that ethical concepts were endorsed across these sectors but presented
differently. This study necessitates thorough norms and laws considering industry-specific requirements to promote
ethical data mining methods.

Assessing Human Resources Management and Academic Performance in Secondary Schools in Osun State Nigeria

Abstract
The study assessed human resource management practices and academic performance of secondary schools in
Osun state. The study adopted the correlational research design. The population consist of teachers in secondary
schools in Osun state, Nigeria. Multi stage sampling procedure was used select 400 teachers to form the sample
for the study. Two instruments viz: Human Resources Management Questionnaire (HRMQ) and NECO result
record were used for the study. Validity was ensured by experts in Tests and Measurement and a reliability
coefficient of 0.87 was obtained using Cronbach alpha for the questionnaire. Data collected were analysed using
both descriptive and inferential statistical tools. The result findings showed that teachers have positive perception
about human resources management among others. The study concluded that human resource management
practices significantly influence academic performance of students in secondary schools in Osun state, Nigeria
thereafter appropriate recommendations were made based on the findings of the study.

Investigation of the Level of Problems of Dyscalculia in Secondary Schools in Keffi Education Zone, Nasarawa State, Nigeria

Abstract
This study investigated the level of problems of dyscalculia in secondary schools in Keffi Education zone, Nasarawa
State. A quantitative survey design was used for the study. The study population comprised 281 secondary
schools Mathematics teachers. There was no sampling involved since the population is manageable and hence
the sample size of two hundred and eighty one (281) secondary schools Mathematics teachers was used for the
study. This study used an instrument adapted from Checklist of Dyscalculia by Chinn (2020). The reliability
coefficient of the instrument obtained was 0.93 using Cronbach’s Alpha. Data generated were analyzed using
mean and standard deviation and t-test. The results showed among others that; the level of problems of
dyscalculia is medium high. Dyscalculia in rural school is higher than urban school. It was recommended among
others that; interventions and diagnosis should be carried out in order to improve the capabilities of these
students to the maximum.

Undergraduate Student’s Perception on the use of E-Books in Supporting their Learning

Abstract
The study examined the undergraduate students’ perception on the use of e-books in supporting learning. Survey
design was used and the study was guided by three research objectives. The target population of the study was final
year undergraduate students of ATBU, Bauchi. Stratified random sampling method was used to sample 120
respondents from the target population of the study. The research instrument was a structured questionnaire
validated by two experts. A pilot study was conducted and the reliability of 0.85 was found using Cronbach’s alpha.
Among the findings of this study is that: undergraduate students are using e-books to support learning; they prefer
using e-books than printed books; and they encountered some challenges such as lack of accessibility while using e-
books for learning. The study therefore recommends among others that the university management should subscribe
to different database so as to facilitate the accessibility of some relevant e-books for the students.
Academic Engagement as a predictor of Mathematics Achievement Among Senior Secondary School Students in Ogun State.

Abstract
This study investigated student academic engagement as predictors of male and female Mathematics achievement in
senior secondary school. A correlation research design of ex-post facto type was used. Sample used comprised 1680
(SS2) students offering from the twenty one randomly selected schools in the three local government areas of Ogun
States Remo division, Nigeria. The instruments are validated and give Mathematics Student Academic Engagement
Scale (MSAES) with0.776r and Mathematics Achievement Test (MAT) withr 0.88. Two hypotheses were
formulated and analyzed using multiple regression analysis. Results revealed no significant contribution of the
predictor variables in male students’ achievement in Mathematics. Meanwhile the study revealed that the predictor
variables significantly contribute to the variance in female students’ achievement in Mathematics. This study
concluded that Mathematics achievement is well predicted by students academic engagement. Hence it is
recommended that stakeholders in Nigeria secondary schools should ensure that the students are academically
engaged.

The Perception and Usage of Educational E-Portfolio Among Fine and Applied Arts Undergraduates in Ondo State, Nigeria

Abstract
Over the past decade, there has been an increased exploration of educational e-portfolios in Universities across
disciplines at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. This paper explores the perception and usage of
educational e-portfolios among fine and applied arts undergraduates in Ondo state. . The study adopted a descriptive
survey research design. 120 respondents were selected using a simple random technique and three (3) universities
were purposively selected. Three (3) research questions were raised and answered using mean and standard
deviation. The questionnaire was subjected to both face and content validity to check the appropriateness and
adequacy of the instrument and it was trial test to check for internal consistency in reliability. The findings of the study
were: Fine and Applied Arts undergraduates derived benefits maximally which enable the students to share their
projects, documents and sees the students as participants rather than an observer. Also heavy lifting, lamination,
trivialization are some of the threats and challenges for implementing the e-portfolio in the universities. It was
concluded that the undergraduates benefited maximally using e-portfolio and they perceived its usefulness as a tool
for keeping art -work. The research study recommends that Fine and Applied Arts undergraduates should be
encouraged to adequately and effectively use e-portfolios because of its numerous benefits in education.

Roles of Advocacy and Community Mobilization on Utilization of Sexual and Reproductive Health Services at Garba Buzu Community, Maiduguri, Borno State

Abstract
This study was conducted to assess the roles of advocacy and community mobilization in utilization of Sexual and
Reproductive Health (SRH) services in Garba Buzu community, Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria. Two objectives
guided the study. Survey research method was used. Research Instruments used for this study were Focused
Group Discussion (FGD) and Interview grids. Purposive sampling technique was used in selecting FGD participants
while quota sampling was used in selecting interview participants. Data were analysed using thematic analysis.
Findings of the study revealed that roles of advocacy and community mobilization in utilization of SRH services is
paramount. It was concluded that increase in service utilization form 2021 to 2022 in the study area was as a
result of coordinated advocacy and community mobilization. It was recommended that SRH managers should
provide conducive atmosphere for community mobilization by community health volunteers at Garba Buzu
community.

Academic Resilience as Predictor of Secondary School Students' Attitude to and Performance in Physics in Enugu State, Nigeria

Abstract
Academic resilience as predictor of secondary school students’ attitude to and performance in physics in Enugu State,
Nigeria was investigated. Two research questions guided the study while two hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level
of significance. Correlation research design was employed in the conduct of the study. The population of the study
involved 12,879 Senior Secondary two (SS2) students offering physics in the 297 public secondary schools in Enugu
State. A sample size of 388 SS2 Physics students were obtained in the three stages using multi-stage sampling
procedure. Two instruments were used for data collections. The unified promotion examination results of SS2
students in 2022/2023 academic year were used to determine the performance scores of the students in Physics.
The coefficient of reliability were determined using Cronbach Alpha method and the values obtained are 0.71 for
Academic Resilience and 0.77 for Attitude Scale. The data collected were analyzed using moderated multiple
regression analysis. The research questions were answered using unstandardized coefficient (B) in the model table,
while t- and p-value in the model table were used to test the null-hypotheses. The findings showed that academic
resilience predicted attitude of students in Physics but failed to predict performance of students in Physics. There is
an independent significant contribution of academic resilience in predicting the attitudes of students but there is no
significant contribution of academic resilience in predicting performance of students. The study recommends that
Government and school administrators should regularly organize workshops and seminars to train teachers and
students on the need to develop a high level of academic resilience.

Junior Secondary School Basic Science Examination As Predictor of Senior School Certificate Examination, Physics, Chemistry and Biology In Rimi Educational Zone, Katsina State, Nigeria.

Abstract
This study determined Junior Secondary School Basic Science Examination as Predictor of Senior School Certificate
Examination, Physics, Chemistry and Biology in Rimi Educational Zone, Katsina State, Nigeria. The objectives were to
determine the predictive validity of JSCE Basic Science on final SSCE Science subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Biology).
The study adopted correlational design. The population of the study was 1.152 out of which a sample of 289
2021/2022 sets of public secondary school SS3 science students that sat for JSCE in 2019 was drawn. PPMC was used
to analyzed the data. All hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The finding showed that positive
relationship existed between JSCE Basic Science and SSCE Physics, with (r= 0.348, p= 0.000), JSCE Basic Science and
SSCE Chemistry (r=0.369, p= 0.000), and JSCE Basic Science and SSCE Biology (r=0.250, p= 0.014). Based on the
outcome of the study, it was concluded that junior secondary school Basic Science is related to senior secondary
school science examination in Rimi Educational Zone, Katsina State. It was recommended that students willing to study
science subjects in future should be motivated to take Basic science examinations serious as this will be a prerequisite
for placing them into science arms of the senior secondary schools.

Effect of Four Modes Application Technique on Academic Performance and Retention Among Senior Secondary Chemistry Students, Katsina State, Nigeria

Abstract
The study examined the effect of four modes application technique on academic performance and retention among
senior secondary chemistry students, Katsina State, Nigeria. The study developed four objectives, answered four
research questions and tested four research hypotheses. The study adopted Quasi-experimental research design. The
population of the study comprised 13,222 Chemistry students from twenty co-educational public secondary schools
in Katsina Zonal Education Quality Assurance. Two schools were selected based on cluster sampling and intact classes
were used in each school with a sample size of 104 students. A validated Chemistry Performance Test (CPT) was used
for data collection. The reliability coefficient of the CPT was obtained using Pearson Product Moment Correlation
Coefficient which was 0.89. The Research questions were answered using mean and standard deviation, while null
hypotheses were tested at p<0.05 level of ‘significance using Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA). The major findings
revealed there was a significant difference in the mean academic performance and retention level between
experimental and control group in favor of experimental group, it was concluded that the students taught Chemistry
using 4MAT performed significantly better than those taught using lecture method and that 4MAT is gender friendly.
The study recommended among others that Chemistry concepts should be taught using methods, strategies and or
techniques such like 4MAT which allows active participation and creative manipulation of the learnt materials.

Self-Concept and Study Habit as Predictors of Academic Performance among Senior Secondary Chemistry Students in Katsina State, Nigeria

Abstract
The study was conducted to determine self-concept and study habit as predictors of academic performance in
Chemistry among Senior Secondary Schools in Katsina State, Nigeria. Two (2) objectives coined with the research
hypotheses were developed. The study adopted correlational survey design. The population of the study
comprised 3,627 Chemistry students from twelve public secondary schools in Baure Zonal Education Quality
Assurance. A sample of 370 respondents were selected using simple random sampling technique. Three validated
instruments namely Chemistry Performance Test (CPT), self-concept inventory (SCI) and study habit inventory
(SHI) were used by the researcher for data collection. The reliability coefficient of the CPT was obtained using
Pearson Product Moment Correlation was 0.76 and that of SCI and SHI was obtained using Cronbach alpha was
0.86 and 0.75. The data collected were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences null hypotheses were
tested at p < 0.05 level of significance using simple regression analysis. The findings revealed that the self-concept
and study habit ha a significant influence on students’ academic performance in chemistry as indicated that they
contribute to about 95.1% and 72.6% of the total variance of students’ performance respectively. The study
recommended among others that; teachers should be trained through workshop, conference, seminars among
others on how to inculcate into students a desirable skill of positive self-concept and study habit to improve their
academic performance.

Effect of Think-Pair Share on Geometric Knowledge of Primary School Pupils in Mathematics

Abstract
This study focused onthink-pair share; a cooperative learning strategy for the development of geometric
knowledgeof primary school pupils in mathematics. It was guided by two research questions and two
hypotheses. The pretest, posttest quasi experimental research design involving two groups was used for
the study. The population of the study comprised of all the primary five (5) pupils of 2022/2023 academic
session in Umuahia Education Zone of Abia state. The education zone has 201 primary schools with 4,447
primary five (5) pupils. The only Two (2) primary schools with class teachers in primary five (5) that have
mathematics background at NCE and Degree levels from Umuahia Educational Zone of Abia State were
purposively sampled for the research. Simple random sampling technique was used in determining
which school becomes the experimental and control group, 68 pupils participated as a sample for the
study (30 males and 38 females). A Geometric Achievement Test (GAT) was used for data collection.
Research questions were answered using mean and standard deviation while the hypotheses were
tested using Analysis of covariance at 0.05 alpha level, with the aid of SPSS version 21. The results showed
a significant difference between the academic achievement of the experimental group and control group
in favour of the experimental group. It also revealed that there was no significant difference in the
academic achievement of male and female pupils taught geometry in the experimental group which
implies that the use of the think-pair share method of teaching is independent of gender. Based on the
findings recommendations were made such as teachers should employ the use of cooperative method
of teaching such as think-pair share in the teaching of geometrical concepts at the primary level of
education to enhance pupils’ academic achievement. Finally, workshops and seminars on the use of
cooperative method of teaching such as think-pair share should be organized by Ministry of Education
for in-service primary school mathematics teachers.

Relationship Between Chatbots and AI-Powered Gamification on Chemistry Students' Motivation

Abstract
The study explored the potential of chatbots and AI-powered gamification on students’ motivation. Two hypotheses
were stated to guide the study. The research design adopted for this study was a survey research design.The
instrument for data collection was a questionnaire titled “Artificial Intelligence And Student Motivation
Questionnaire” (AISMQ. The sample of 200 students was randomly selected in the study area. Pearson Correlation
analysis at 0.05 level of significance was used. The findings revealed that both, Chatbot and AI-powered gamification
have a significant relationship with student motivation. In light of these findings, it was recommended among others
that students be tutored on how to use AI.

Effects of Mind and Concept Mapping Techniques on Interest and Performance Among Senior Secondary Geography Students in Katsina State, Nigeria

Abstract
The study investigated the effect of Mind and Concept Mapping Techniques on Interest and Performance Among
Senior Secondary Geography Students in Katsina State, Nigeria. The study had two research objectives, two research
questions and two null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The design was pretest posttest control group quasi-
experimental. Population of the study consisted of 6,623 SSII students from twenty one schools in Katsina Zonal
Education Quality Assurance. Three co-educational public senior secondary schools were selected using Cluster
sampling technique. A total number of 183 students form the sample of the study. Two research instruments
Geography Academic Performance Test and Geography Interest Questionnaire with reliability coefficients of (r =
0.662, r = 0.826) were used for data collection. Research questions were answered using descriptive statistics, while
the null hypotheses were tested using kruskal wallis and ANCOVA at 0.05 level of significance. Results revealed that
there was a significant difference in the mean interest and performance scores of geography students taught map
reading concept using Mind and Concept Mapping and those exposed to lecture method. Based on the finding
recommendations were made that teachers should be provided with adequate training to adopt the new teaching
strategies in teaching and learning of geography.

Transforming Education: Inclusive Strategies for Encouraging Girls' Child in STEM Education in Nigeria

Abstract
Promoting gender equality in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields remains a
global challenge, particularly in developing countries like Nigeria. The underrepresentation of girls in STEM
is a complex issue influenced by socio-cultural norms, inadequate resources, and limited access to quality
education. This study explored effective approaches to mitigate these barriers and create an environment
where girls feel empowered to pursue STEM careers. The paper adopted a quantitative approach in which
data were gathered through the use of questionnaire. A survey was conducted among 100 girl's students in
both Junior and Senior Secondary Schools randomly selected across Ilorin West local government of Kwara
State. The data analysed revealed that the development of curriculum with real life learning content that
relates STEM subjects to real-world applications remains a crucial inclusive strategy. This study concludes
that effecting a transformation in education to foster girls' interest in STEM in Nigeria demands the need for
real life learning rather than mere classroom engagement.

Effect of Physics Education Technology (PHET) Virtual Laboratory Experiment Simulation on Students' Academic Performance in Practical Physics in Ogoja Education Zone

Abstract
The study examined the effectiveness of Physics Education Technology (PhET) virtual laboratory
experiment on students' academic performance in practical physics in Ogoja Education Zone. This study
was guided by three specific purposes, research questions and null hypotheses respectively. The study
employed an experimental randomized post-test only control group factorial design. The population of
the study was 2,797 senior secondary school three students. The sample size was 42 SSIII students which
comprised of 19 male students and 23 female students. Purposive sampling technique was used to select
one co-educational school while simple random sampling was used to draw two groups of randomized
subjects which were used for the experiment. The instruments used for data collection was adopted and
titled Ohms Law Practical Physics Assessment Scale (OLPPAS). Pearson Correlation Coefficient inter-rater
statistics was used to determine the reliability of the OLPPAS with reliability index of 0.87. Mean and
standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while a two-way between group analysis
of variance (ANOVA) was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The result showed
that students that were engaged through the virtual physics laboratory performed better than students
taught in the traditional physics laboratory. The result also indicated that female students performed
better than male students and finally there was no significant interaction effect between type of
laboratory and gender in students mean performance scores in practical physics.

Effect of Collaborative Learning Method on Academic Achievement of Secondary School Biology Students in Abia State

Abstract
This study investigated the effect of collaborative learning on academic achievement of secondary school
Biology students in Abia State. Two research questions and two null hypotheses guided the study. Quasi
experimental research design was adopted for this study. The population of the study comprised 13,306 SSII
Biology students (6,415 males and 6,891 females) in 2020/2021 academic session. A sample of 84 SSII Biology
students consisting of 38 males and 46 females was drawn in multi stages using purposive and simple random
sampling techniques. Biology Achievement Test (BAT) adapted from past WAEC questions was used for data
collection. The instrument was subjected to reliability test using Kuder Richardson 20 (KR20) test statistics, and a
reliability coefficient of 0.78 was obtained. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research
questions while the null hypotheses were tested using Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) at 0.05 level of
significance. Findings from the study showed that students taught Biology using collaborative learning method
achieved higher than those taught with lecture method. Furthermore, there was no significant difference in the
academic achievement of male and female students exposed to collaborative learning method. Based on the
findings of the study, it was recommended that Biology teachers should use collaborative learning method in
the process of teaching and learning for high academic achievement.

Abstract
The purpose of this paper was to review skill acquisition and values for quality physics education in Nigeria.
Research in physics education at secondary and tertiary levels in recent years has focused more on concept
learning than on skills and values development. Values development has received the least attention. This
paper therefore, focused on the review of skill acquisition and values for quality physics education. The main
policy of physics education in Nigeria is to raise the quality so as to make the recipients of the system
technologically oriented, useful to themselves and their society. To achieve this, the paper discussed skill
acquisition through practical activities, physics process skills, challenges of practical skill acquisition and
development of values. The paper concluded that the state of quality physics education for sustainable
development in Nigeria is poor and this calls for emphasizes on skills acquisition through physics practical
activities to change the situation for better.

Awareness and Utilization of Google Classroom Among Undergraduate Students of Ondo State Universities

Abstract
Google Classroom is an online learning management system developed by Google that aims to streamline the process
of creating, distributing, and grading assignments in a digital classroom setting Google Classroom is accessible on
multiple devices, including desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and mobile phones, which enhances its usability and
convenience. The present study is focused on the awareness and utilization of Google Classroom among undergraduates
of Ondo State University for academic purposes. The study adopted descriptive research design; simple random
technique was used to select three hundred (300) students out of the 1750 final year students from three (3)
universities, one (1) each from the three (3) senatorial districts of the state. Three (3) research questions were raised
for the study and three (3) experts in educational technology validated the instrument to ensure its content and face
validity. The data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation among others. The findings showed that
undergraduates were aware and utilize Google Classroom for academic purposes and it has positive impact on their
academic performance. The study concluded that Google Classroom is an effective tool for academic purposes. It was
therefore recommended that Teachers and the school administrators should consider integrating Google Classroom
after proper planning in teaching as it provides students extended opportunities to learn.

Metacognition and Self-Efficacy Belief as Determinants of Students Achievement in Biology in Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State

Abstract
The study examined Metacognition and Self-Efficacy Belief as Determinants of Students Achievement in Biology in
Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State. Two research questions were raised and two hypotheses formulated
to guide the study. The study adopted a correlation design. Sample size of 240 Biology students was used for the
study, drawn using simple random sampling technique. The instruments used for data collection were questionnaire
and Biology achievement test. The reliabilities of the instruments were established using Cronbach alpha and Kuder
Richardson (KR20) methods. Reliability indices of 0.83, 0.90 and 0.87 were gotten for metacognition, self-efficacy
belief and achievement test respectively. Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was used to answer
research questions and the hypotheses were tested using linear regression analysis. Results of the analysis revealed
that; there is a high positive relationship between Metacognition and self-efficacy belief on students’ academic
achievement in Biology. Based on the findings the following recommendations were made among others: Teachers
and parents should endeavor to encourage and motivate learners to believe in themselves, create conducive
environment at home. Parents should not label any students or children negatively so as not to weaken their morale
not to believe in themselves.

Rising Insecurity and its Implications on Food Security in Niger North Senatorial District, Niger State, Nigeria

Abstract
The paper examined the rising insecurity in Niger North Senatorial District and its implications on food security in
Niger state. Despite the unwavering commitments and efforts of the Government of Niger State in collaboration with
the Federal government of Nigeria to tackle the overwhelming situation; insecurity still persists in the zone with its
attendant massive loss and destructions of human lives and properties through frequent invasion of communities to
kidnap and unlawful killings of people, imposing unlawful taxes to farmers, women abuse (rape), cattle rustling, among
others. These, therefore, resulted in people fleeing their ancestral homes, disruption of farming and consequent rise
in the prices of foodstuffs hence, deepening the level of poverty as well as food insecurity in the state. However, the
study recommends the following; the government should ensure effective formulation and implementation of policies
capable of addressing the root causes of the insecurity not only in the state but the country at large among others.

Challenges and Prospects of Implementation of Senior Secondary School Chemistry Curriculum in Nigeria

Abstract
This paper examined challenges and prospects of implementation of senior secondary school chemistry
curriculum in Nigeria. The specific objectives of secondary school and those of chemistry education were
highlighted. The concept of curriculum implementation and the conceptual problems that were
regarded as being challenges to the implementation of senior secondary school chemistry curriculum
were highlighted. Certain approaches considered prospective to improvement of the implementation
chemistry curriculum such as improvisation of instructional materials by chemistry teachers and their
students, involvement of teachers in decision-making and planning of curriculum and employment of
adequate number qualified teachers by government were also discussed. Thus, it was recommended
among others that stakeholders of secondary school education; the government, chemistry teachers and
Parent Teachers Association should work as a unit in actualizing the objectives of the secondary
education chemistry programme.

Abstract
Science, Technology and Mathematics Education (STME) is an embodiment of technically related yet
distinctive disciplines that humanity cannot do without. Mathematics a pivotal part of STME is viewed by
many as an abstract subject, making the instructional strategies adopted by practitioners of the subject and
the standard of teachers a matter of academic discourse. In focusing on the best possible approach to a
professional mathematics content delivery, this paper draws a nexus between the use of Computer Assisted
Instruction (CAI) a computerized instruction programme designed to instruct learners while interacting with
them and the professionalism of the mathematics teachers. The paper further analyses the extent to which
certain factors in the teaching of mathematics by professional teachers could influence the use CAI in
mathematics classroom delivery. The paper recommended amongst others that professional development
training and workshops for STME teachers be prioritized in computer-assisted method to boost efficient
lesson delivery.

Implementing Digital Learning Technologies in Mathematics Education in Tertiary Institutions: Challenges and Prospects

Abstract
Technology has eaten deep into all facets of education and its contribution to the development of education and the
society at large is visible today. However, some areas of knowledge such as mathematics education in higher institutions
in Nigeria are still trailing behind. The present study investigated the implementation of digital learning technologies in
mathematics education in higher institutions with respect to their challenges and prospects. The study was a descriptive
survey type using a population of 15 mathematics education lecturers in Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education Owerri
Imo State. Based on the objectives, 2 research questions were drawn to guide the study. The instrument for data
collection was a researcher-made Likert 4-point type questionnaire titled “Challenges and Prospects of Implementing
Digital Learning Technologies in Mathematics Education (CPIDLT)”. It had a reliability coefficient of 0.75 determined using
the Cronbach alpha formula. The data generated were analyzed using mean and standard deviation. The result of the
study revealed the challenges among others to include, inadequate funding, lack of technical experts to handle digital
technologies, epileptic power supplies, lecturers' poor attitudes towards the use of digital technologies, while access to
virtual manipulatives, collaborative learning, enhanced problem-solving skills, access to mathematics course materials,
provides support for individual learners needs, enhances creativity among others were the prospects. Based on the
findings, it was recommended that Lecturers should be given in-service training to improve their skills in the application
of digital learning technologies in mathematics teaching.

Impact of Hybrid Learning Mode on Students' Achievement in Mathematics in Secondary Schools in Owerri Municipal Council

Abstract
The study investigated the impact of hybrid learning mode on students' achievement in mathematics in secondary
schools in Owerri municipal Council of Imo State Nigeria. Based on the objectives of the study, two research questions
and three hypotheses guided the study. Two coeducational schools were purposively selected for the study and a
sample of 165 SS2 students from four intact classes were used for the study consisting of 80 males and 85 females.
The instrument for data collection was a researcher-made objective test questions titled “Mathematics Achievement
Test (MAT)”. The instrument had a reliability coefficient of 0.87 determined using the Kudder-Richardson formula 20
(KR20). The experiment group was taught mathematics using hybrid learning mode while the control group was taught
using the conventional method. The data generated were analyzed using mean and standard deviation to answer
research questions while the hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance using ANCOVA statistical tool. The
result of the study revealed that the hybrid learning mode improved students' achievement in mathematics and there
was no gender difference in their achievements. Based on the result of the study, it was recommended that Hybrid
learning mode should be introduced in teaching and learning mathematics in secondary schools to improve students'
achievement.
