Social Media Skills Need of Computer Education Students for Entrepreneurial Engagement in Public Universities in Enugu State

This study determine social media skills need of Computer Education students for entrepreneurial engagement in Public Universities, Enugu State. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. The data analyzed were obtained from 100 students of Computer Education using simple random sampling techniques. The instrument used for data collection was a structured Social Media Skill Questionnaire (SMSQ), consisting of 37 skills items. Cronbach Alpha was used to estimate the reliability of the instrument at 0.92. The data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation. The study found that; ten social media skills in digital marketing; eight social media skills in blogging; nine social media skills in online coaching; ten social media skills in networking were needed by students for entrepreneurial engagement. It was recommended among others that lecturers should make use of the findings of this study to equip the students with social media skills needed for entrepreneurial engagement.

Relative Efficacy of Graphics and Model Instructional Media on Academic Achievement of Biology Students in Aguata Education Zone

This paper investigated the relative efficacy of graphics and model instructional media on academic achievement of Biology students in Anambra State. Three research questions and hypotheses guided the study. The sample comprised 210 SS11Biology students. The instrument used for data collection was Biology Achievement Test (BAT). Kuder-Richarson 20 (K-R20) was used to determine internal consistency of BAT and a reliability coefficient of 0.97 was obtained. Mean, Standard deviation and Analysis of Covariate (ANCOVA) were used for data analysis. The results revealed that students taught biology using graphics instructional media performed better than students taught using model; male students performed better than female students when taught using graphics instructional media among others. The study recommended among others that teachers receive appropriate training in the use of graphics in the teaching and learning process.

Self-Awareness and Students’ Perception of Covid-19 Learning Loss as Correlates of Achievement in Basic Science in Enugu State, Nigeria

Preferred approach to learning depends on self-awareness. Self-awareness varies from individual to individual. Students awareness of their learning may be an important determinant in their academic achievement. This study was carried out to explore this association among Basic science students in Enugu state self-awareness and perception of covid-19 learning loss on their academic achievement. Two research questions and two hypotheses were formulated. The study adopted a correlational survey design. The population of the study was 3417 junior secondary school two (JSS2) students in public schools in Enugu Education Zone. A multi-stage sampling stage was used to sample 250 students. Three instruments; Self-Awareness Questionnaire (SAQ), Covid-19 Learning Loss Questionnaire (CLLQ) and Basic Science Continuous Assessment Data Collection Proforma (BSCADCP) were used for data collection. Multiple linear regression was used to answer the research questions and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) to test the hypotheses. Moderate (r=0.74) and low positive (r=0.45) relationship were found between self-awareness, learning loss and students’ achievement. The researchers recommended that State Ministry of Education should organize seminars to highlight the importance of self-awareness in promoting students’ achievement, especially in Basic Science.

Effect of Blended Learning Strategies on Undergraduate Students’ Self-Efficacy and Achievement on Difficult Biology Topics in South Eastern Nigerian Federal Universities

The study explored the effect of blended learning strategies on undergraduate students’ self-efficacy and achievement on difficult Biology topics. Quasi experimental research design was used. First-year Biology Education students of 2020/2021 academic session constituted the population of the study. 177 students consisting of 78 males and 99 females formed the sample. The instruments for data collection were Nervous Coordination Achievement Test (NCAT) and Nervous Coordination Self-Efficacy Rating Scale (NCSERS). Research questions were answered using mean and standard deviation while the hypothesis was tested using ANCOVA. The results revealed that students exposed to flipped classroom had higher self-efficacy and achievement scores than those exposed to Edmodo social learning strategy. “The influence of gender on self-efficacy and achievement” was significant in favour of male students. It was recommended that lecturers should blend traditional classroom with on-line teaching and learning especially using flipped classroom for concretizing abstract concepts/topics.

Effects of Ethnochemistry Based Approach on Chemistry Students’ Academic Achievement and Retention in Malumfashi Educational Zone, Katsina State, Nigeria

This study determined the effectiveness of Ethnochemistry based Approach on Chemistry Students’ Academic Achievement and Retention in Malumfashi Educational Zone, Katsina State, Nigeria. Four research questions and four null hypotheses guided the study. The study adopted Nonequivalent Quasi-experimental design in form pretest, posttest, post-posttest, control group. Engaged in the study were 97students selected from 5501 SSII Chemistry Students. Chemistry Achievement Test (CAT) with test-retet reliability index r=0.864 of was used for collecting data after validation by experts. The stated research questions were answered using mean and standard deviation and null hypotheses were tested using ANCOVA (One-way) and Independent samples t-test test at P≤0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that a significant difference exits in the mean academic achievement and retention scores of SSII Students taught Chemistry Concepts using Ethnochemistry based Approach and those taught using Lecture Method in favour of those students taught using Ethnochemistry based Approach. However, the study found no significant difference in the mean academic achievement and retention scores of male and female Students taught Chemistry Concepts using Ethnochemistry based Approach. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that teachers should incorporate the use of ethnochemistry practices, examples and illustrations for effective chemistry content delivery to enhance students’ achievement and retention of Chemistry Concepts for indelible meaningful learning through Ethnochemistry Based Approach.

Effect of Ethnochemistry Based Approach on Secondary School Students’ Attitude Toward Chemistry Concepts in Malumfashi Educational Zone, Katsina State, Nigeria

This study investigated the effect of Ethnochemistry based Approach on Secondary School Students’ Attitude toward Chemistry Concepts in Malumfashi Educational Zone, Katsina State, Nigeria. Quasi-experimental design involving pretest-posttest control group was adopted for the study. 97 Students were selected through Multi-stage sampling procedure out of the total population of 5501 SSII Chemistry Students. Adapted Chemistry Attitude Questionnaire (CAQ) with split-half reliability index of r=0.897 was used as tool for collecting data in the study. Mean, Standard Deviations and Mann Whitney (U-test) were used to answer the two research questions and two corresponding null hypotheses at p≤0.05 level of significance using SPSS V.20.0. The findings of the study revealed that the use of Ethnochemsitry based approach have significant positive effect in improving the attitude of students toward Chemistry concept over the use of Lecture Method and in favour of female students. Therefore, the study recommended that chemistry teachers should adopt Ethnochemistry Based Approach for teaching school chemistry. Also, textbooks writers should support their content explanations with relevant cultural and indigenous examples.

Chemistry Teachers’ Awareness and Utilization of Virtual Learning Environment in Teaching and Learning in Maiduguri Metropolis, Borno state

The study investigated Chemistry Teachers’ awareness and utilization of Virtual Learning Environment in Teaching and Learning. A Descriptive Survey research design with a sample of 44 chemistry teachers from public Secondary Schools of Maiduguri Metropolis, Borno state was adopted for the study. Validated Chemistry Teachers’ Awareness and Utilization of Virtual Learning Environment (CTAUVLE) was used as data collection instrument. The reliability coefficient of CTAUVLE is 0.72 determined using Cronbach method. Mean and standard deviation was used for data analysis. The results of the study among others revealed that chemistry teachers are not aware of and do not utilize Virtual Learning Environment tools for teaching and learning. Following recommendations were made from the study: the educational stakeholders should make efforts to provide ICT tools to the secondary schools, provide in-service and on the job ICT training for the chemistry teachers. This will facilitate teaching and learning of chemistry via Virtual Learning Environment.
